Third time under saddle, and on the TRAIL !!

Prairie has been a joy since she was first born. She is Very sweet natured, and has an easy mellow way about her. She loves to take care of the newly weaned babies for us, showing she will be a great mother.

Due to an injury to our stallion, Cascade, who is one of our main riding horses, we were forced to take Prairie to the mountains for a week long trip. She had only been ridden a total of 2 hours divided into her 4 times under saddle. We arrived at the trail head in the Cascade mountains, she began by being high lined for the first of 6 nights. She was perfect. stood and ate and slept, no pawing or fussing. The next day, we headed up the mountain, saddle bags and all. She was relaxed, and went up the switchbacks, over bridges, through water and mud, all with the attitude... this is what I was bred for, lets do it. She had not had a saddle on prior to this day, for more than 30 minutes, so her girth was alittle sore when we got back to camp. We won't do anything to cause more discomfort, so we gave her the next day off. She waited in camp high lined,( Keith stayed to watch her) while I rode. She did fine, amazing!!! Then, the rest of the trip we rode her bareback with a halter. There are many that say "they can't do anything with their mare, so they just bred her" We say, "our mares are so great to ride and handle, we hate to breed them, we want to use them" These mares combined with our stallions, are producing horses like Prairie , who was bred, raised and trained here, by us.

 

We have left Prairie open for 2010, as we love her company in the high country. She had a beautiful colt for us in 2009, by our stallion, Davy. We are thrilled with Crockett's Qwik Draw !! You can see photos of him on our "Foal" page.

Prairie will be bred to Davy, for a spring 2011 foal !!
